Résumé : |
Many major infectious diseases in tropical and developing countries are amenable to control by environmental interventions. This book describes these infections and the interventions that may be effectively used against them. The book is in sixteen chapters divided in four parts : health and pollution; water supply, excreta and refuse : treatment disposal and re-use; and environmental modifications and vector-borne diseases. The infections described include the diarrhoeal diseases, the common gut worms, guinea worm, schistosomiasis, malaria, bancroftian filariasis and other mosquito-borne infections. The environmental interventions that receive most attention are domestic water supplies and improved excreta disposal, and the relationships between these interventions and infectious diseases are documented in detail. The book is intended both for those from an engineering background and those from a medical or public health background. (Résumé de l'éditeur) |
